Not exactly true... it really depends on how your mail server sits in 
the current and proposed topology.

If all your users use the linux box as an smtp host, and also collect 
their mail from it, then yes, you can get rid of the @something on the 
end of the message, as from the mail servers point of view, all mail is 
local.
