There are many magnifier programs, your distribution probably comes with one
or more. Some window managers have an option to show you where the mouse
pointer is, I vaguely remember that Enlightenment is one of those.

What you really want though is to know that XFree86 has a built in
magnification capability. You need to have several resolutions configured
correctly, then using CTRL ALT and the plus and minus keys on the numeric
keypad will change between them, thus zooming in and out. Everything,
including the mouse pointer, will get bigger. For instance, you could have
1024x768, 800x600, and 640x480 all setup. Your programs think they are
running at 1024x768, but you could be zoomed into 640x480 and scroll around
the 1024x768 windows just by moving the mouse.
