I could not find any reference to aliases in the man page, but
in the kernel the netfilter code only looks at device names - ie
the names printed by "ip link show".  It does not look at address
names (aka aliases) - ie the names printed by "ip address show").

I have not found a use for address names, other than as support
for backward compatibility with ifconfig.
