Several Humbug members have asked me to post some information
about this event, which I will be competing in as part of the
prelude to the Formula One Grand Prix in Melbourne in a couple
of weeks.
The Grand Prix web site is at:
http://www.grandprix.com.au/cars/home/index.asp
The Grand Prix Rally details can be found from the above, or
directly from this link:
http://www.grandprix.com.au/cars/gprally/index.asp
The latter link will lead to pages showing information about the
format and route of the rally and will -- once the event gets
under way on 28 Feb -- provide running scores, etc.
I've posted this to general because some of the people who asked
me for information don't read chat -- but I've marked replies to
go to chat and I trust that anybody who wants to follow up on
this will indeed respect that and do it on chat.
A final comment on my preparations while I'm here. I've been
busy chasing up paperwork and other bureaucratic stuff over the
past 2 weeks -- this has been a trifle tricky as I'm not the
owner of the car or the entrant in the event. My partner in the
event (who is an engineer at Invensys, a company well-known to
at least some readers) has been chasing bugs in a system in
Saudi Arabia for the last little while. He has re-scheduled his
return several times, but now hopes to arrive home with three
days free before we leave for Melbourne.
If you're looking for us in the results, the other guy's name is
Andrew West; we're in the "modern" division. We won't be near
the top of the results -- lack of rally experience and a slow
car are the first two excuses that come to mind.
Cheers, Greg
