Out of curiosity, is this an ADSL connection? I find that on our home
connection (512/128) that when the upstream traffic hits about 75% of
our theoretical upstream capabilities, the upstream is saturated and
the pings are ridiculously high. We had to implement a throttling system
to keep our internet connection usable.
One assumes that since games use upstream in larger quantities than
'regular' internet use (HTTP, FTP, etc) that this could be happening to
you as well.
