A solution which has worked well for a colleague of mine is to reply to the
spam-owner indicating that he didn't wish to hear from them again and if the
matter was not resolved to his satisfaction that the next letter would be
from his solicitors.
Of course, I am sure that he never actually plans to sue but anecdotal
evidence seems to indicate a pretty high success rate so far.

Why not contact one of the clubs directors and tell them that although
you would have once considered attending, in the light of their spamming
you will never consider or recommend them to anyone. Odds are those who
control the purse strings will quickly come to their senses.
