Hello,
I'm not sure whether anyone here has experience with 3d acceleration on *nix
but I thought it was worth a shot asking anyway:
I have FreeBSD 5.1 Release with Xfree 4.3 and DRI working flawlessly, glxinfo
reports Direct Rendering, glxgears Averages 1500 fps.
Now for the interesting part, I tried to run Quake 3(a Linux Binary) and until
I installed the linux-dri port it wouldn't run, reporting that it couldn't
find libGL.so.1(It was finding the BSD version, but not using it due to
emulation reasons) which according to my Google is quite normal.
After installing linux-dri I find that Quake 3 finds the linux compatibility
libGL.so.1 no problems, but is now trying to use GLIDE to run my overly
obviously NOT glide video card, a Radeon 9k Pro. The reason why this is
happening escapes me, and apparently Google too as the sources from there
have been quite unrewarding.
Does anyone know how the Linux-DRI works?, and if so can I force it to NOT use
glide??? I have encluded the error output below, incase that helps:
...loading libGL.so.1: Initializing OpenGL display
...setting mode 3: 640 480
Xlib: extension "XFree86-VidModeExtension" missing on display ":0.0".
XF86DGA Mouse (Version 2.0) initialized
Using 4/4/4 Color bits, 16 depth, 0 stencil display.
gd error (glide): gd error (glide): grSstSelect: non-existent SSTgd error
(glide): grSstSelect: non-existent SSTReceived signal 11, exiting...
I hope I havn't forgotten to include any details that might be neccissary, but
knowing my memory I probably have - if so reply and I will give you any info
you need. I have perused the Mesa and DRI pages and neither seems to provide
a means to disable Glide, they also don't specify that it can't be done, so I
live in hope(and poverty).
Cheers,
Joe
