Normally, this would go to the Cluster SIG mailing list, but since all
members could help with this, I thought the General mailing list was a
better choice.
The basic problem is that the cluster needs to be transported to and from
meetings, and the two people that had previously volunteered for that job
have both decided to no longer offer their services. There are currently
six computers in the cluster, with a recent offer of another six, which
will make it too many for one or two people to transport.
Cluster computers have built in redundancy, any single computer in the
cluster could go down and it would only slow things down. I have decided
to apply this principle to the transportation of the cluster.
Introducing, the "Adopt a node" program B-).
The idea here is that the people that turn up to most meetings can adopt
one (or more) nodes, and be responsible for carting it to and from
meetings, and either storing it between meetings, or taking it to a central
storage place between meetings. I will carry the front end (it's my server
anyway) and the network switch. The node adopters do not have to be part
of the cluster SIG, or know anything about setting them up, they just need
car/storage space for one computer (no monitor, keyboard, or mouse) and a
willingness to bring the computer to the meetings they go to. I will do
the setting up, and probably help carry them at the meeting.
The beauty of this approach is that at least some of the nodes will be at
each meeting.
Any volunteers?
