[H-GEN] Samba Newbie Question

We have a network of 2 Linux machines (1 Red Hat 7.2, 1 Debian stable) and a
number of Windows XP machines.

The Red Hat holds the DNS server and a Samba server. The Debian also has a
Samba server. We are setting up the Debian machine to take over from the Red
Hat.

Windows can see a test workgroup from the Debian machine but can not access
any resources within it. We can access this machine by typing in a full
domain name from the windows machines.

eg. \\server.domain.com.au        This works
    \\server                                This doesn't.

On the Red Hat machine the second example works fine (no, the names are not
the same)

The configuration files seem to be the same. Is this something to do with
the DNS server? or is it Samba?
I had nothing to do with the original setups so I'm flying blind.
