Actually Canon printers do have that problem, especially if you refill
the cartridge. I've found that Canon printers have less reliable
cartridges as they put the heads on the cartridge and they can get
stuffed easily when changing between colour and black.
Of course that's less of a problem with the more recent printers,
however I've not seen a recent Canon printer that isn't USB only.
I've not had problems with the 2nd hand Epson printer I was recently
given. It has been sitting idle for a few weeks and no problem printing
a colour document today, in fact it looked way better than I expected.
Personally, replacement cartridge price determines whether I buy a
printer or not. If it's $8-10 to get a new cartridge, who really cares
how many pages you get out of it (within reason) or whether it might
have problems being left for a month at a time.
I don't know if this printer I have does postscript however I suspect it
may. (I've seen it used in corporate setting although wasn't sure if
postscript was a use of the printer or not.)
