Had this problem with SIS650.

During installation I selected "flat panel 1024x768" monitor and "vesa"
video driver, and it worked.

Hope this helps.

Of course Mandrake 9.1/9.2 come with SIS drivers built in which sets up the
screen automatically without the need for user intervention.
