This all sounds pretty normal.

It makes perfect sense -- there are bugs in the various pieces
of software.  At the time you did this, the bugs in ISC's DHCP
client interoperated nicely with the bugs in the Optus DHCP
server (quite possibly also from ISC).  Next week, different
bugs might be helpful in working with some other server.  This
is the way of software, especially from a select set of vendors
that includes ISC.
