Sounds like it needed a driver disk for the SCSI card. Try as they 
might, it's tricky for the developers to provide every driver in 
existence on a boot image. It's harder still to include drivers that 
haven't been written yet for hardware than wasn't existant when the 
release was cut.

If you encounter a situation like this, check the relevant websites - 
you will normally encounter 'driver disks' (ie, media with appropriate 
module) there, and can install like mad.
