I wasn't advocating not building your own packages, although
that seems unlikely to be a path of least resistance for
somebody who was unfamiliar with that process.  However, at
least one of the examples I gave is in fact a case where you
can't use a package successfully, no matter who builds it.

All I wanted to point out is that there are situations where a
packaged solution might not be what you want.  However, that is
going to be the exception rather than the rule.
