None of the reasons you mentioned are a reason for not building
your own packages, be it from scratch or using the existing
packages as a base. You get the advantages of having stuff
packaged, as well as fixing all the problems you've mentioned
there. I've built both RPMs and debs and its really not
that hard. I'm sure other OS's package tools aren't that hard
to build for either.
