I've seen something like this in Novell ZenWorks Imaging - which relies
on a Linux kernel.  As far as where to get it, you could have a look on
Novell's website, but I think it's actually distributed as part of the
ZenWorks package - even though it can be used with local images.

I know of this package because we had to use it at St. James College to
set up the machines when they made the move from using WinNT on the
server to Novell.
