That is totally correct - only Telstra-based network phone lines can be
used for ADSL, and then only in certain circumstances (no faxduet, no
RIM, within 5KM, no pairgain, etc). I recently changed from Optus local
back to Telstra local because I want to cancel my Optus Cable (3GB for
broadband, that is a laugh) connection and go for an ADSL connection.

Sandra, you currently pay monthly fees on your Optus line - they changed
this a few months back. So, basically, that is no longer an issue.

If you ring up Telstra and tell them that you want to move back from
Optus local to a full-service Telstra phone service, and you have a home
line, and you have previously had a Telstra line in your house, then
Telstra are not charging you the $59 reconnection fee. I know this, as
I only recently (6 days ago) changed back to Telstra.
