Hello all,
Linux (SUSE 8.1) During the boot up I get "No IP address yet
backgrounding"

The network doesn't connect. Eth 0 was failing but I increased the wait
time for eth0 to 20 seconds. This seemed to help the first time but then
changed from failing to backgrounding. The network connects about 20% of
the time, the rest of the time I get the error above.

Robert suggested I include some extra info - please find the attached
and below
1. Output of dmesg --- see boot.message attached
2. Output of ifconfig -a --- see ifconfig message
3. Result of cat /proc/interrupts --- see interrupts.message
3. Running /sbin/ifconfig eth0 192.168.254.1 up, gives the following:
/sbin/ifconfig eth0 192.168.254.1 up
SIOCSIFADDR: Permission denied
Eth0: unknown interface: No such device
Eth0: unknown interface: No such device

All advice gratefully received.
