That depends, is the box losing it's pppoe connection often? :)
Seriously, examine the source around that area to see what sorts of
conditions might invoke that error.

I spake to the Great Oracle[1] for you (he says hi, btw).  Little info
unfortunately, but I did find one page suggesting that Brisbane's own Doug
Young[2] wrote a document providing a detailed explanation of this problem
and a fix back in 2001.  The link to the fabled explanation
(http://brisbane.apana.org.au/~freebsd) was broken unfortunately.

[1] Google Groups (formerly DejaNews) is a wonderous source of
information.  When researching a problem, use it early, use it often.
Unfortunately it didn't come up trumps this time although it often does.
