Previously I had only run with fvwm2 like Rob (Hi Rob), that and the other
responses gives me something to chew upon, with a similiar set-up as you
have given below. Basically, if I can get some nice feature without too
much impact on machine resources I would go with a desktop. My trails of
gnome/kde is leading me towards kde.
Normally I work only at the command line, the main reason that I have not
follow the development in this area. But I want to migrate and also use
some of the IBM Linux tools at home :)

the xscreensaver package.
