MPlayer is normally pretty good at picking up whatever you have installed,
and using those items in modules. I've regularly built it using the
simple mantra:
  ./configure
  make
  sudo make install

The only issues I've had are in making sure that I have all the modules I
want installed before running configure.

The sorts of info we'd need to help are:

- What distro are you running? (ie. do you need rpms, debs, or tarballs
to get all the modules you may need/want).

- What goes wrong when you try and build MPlayer? Is the problem during
configuration or during make?

- If you're able to configure, then what does MPlayer report as modules it
was able to configure?

- What are the error messages you see?
