What sort of video card do you have?   You'll need to make sure that
your dvd player is using your video card's hardware scaling and
overlay features.   

Have a look at the "video drivers" section of
<http://xinehq.de/index.php/features>.  You want to be using Xvideo or
XVIDIX rather than the slower XShm output driver.
