The init=/bin/sh trick worked for me the other day when someone nuked
/etc/shadow on a system here. I suspect it will work if /etc/passwd has
been nuked (since the boot won't contain any looksup of the user or
password) but I'd want to test it to be sure.  I'm certain it'd work if
/etc/group was gone (or otherwise fubared :)
