Not sure where, on Debian it's generally in /var/www.  You could look in 
your apache config for the DocumentRoot setting and that will tell you. 
  That said, it would be normal practice (well, it is for me, I don't 
know about others) to create a public_html directory in your home 
directory and start playing in there and access 
http://127.0.0.1/~yourusername/ .
