Thanks... yes, it had to be something relatively simple, and both
sources say the same thing -- it seems that this is the magic I was
missing:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlogon\Parameters]
"requiresignorseal"=dword:00000000

That was set to 1.  I've yet to test it, but it seems that this is
what the problem has been.  (b1@@dy kr&zi m$@f% defaults, grrr).

Thanks heaps, both of those URLs are excellent references.  (google
didn't find them for me...)
