I don't think it's luck either, I use Gnome 2 compiled from source on my
Desktop Machine on FreeBSD and can happily say i'v never seen it crash, iv
had Opera Crash(probably because its a linux binary) all of twice, and
gmplayer crashed once(when I forgot to change the dvd device setting,
oops!). Overall i'm very happy with Gnome, and I wouldn't be if I saw 'lots
of bugs' and 'dozens of core dumps', After saying that I would like to point
out that Gnome 2 under Redhat 9(my last OS on my desktop before FreeBSD) was
exactly what you described Greg, especially the part about Machines running
slower(there was a substantial wait in between clicking the 'home' icon, and
it actually appearing, now it's instant). In my opinion stability of your
Window Manager or Desktop is totally based on the health of your system -
Redhat 9 made Gnome look bad, FreeBSD makes it a pleasure.

Cheers,
   Joe
