My personal experience is that telling software not to cross mount
points is quirky. It works sometimes, and not others.

>From all reports and experiences, at the moment, using the snapshot
feature of LVM can be more problematic than using dump. A workmate
here has a large interest[1] in LVM, and as such plays with it a lot
at home where he has several hundred GB, and is always telling me how
he managed to destroy the FS once again by using the snapshot feature.
I've never been once game to try the snapshot feature on any of the
machines here at work.
Having said that, LVM itself is wonderful and I do wish I had the ability
to join in the development at the code level. An entire system which resides
on LVM can make life very easy when requirements change.[2]
[1] I believe the word fetish maybe more apt.
[2] Not every company can afford a new machine for every new task
requirement.
