I'd also recommend taking a look at the back of the monitor when you
get things going, and copying any serial numbers and so on you find
into Google. This often gives you URLs for surprisingly good manuals
for various pieces of kit (like my Trinitron E210, or even the old 15"
I used to use in Australia[1]).
Oh, and when you *do* find the correct sync rates for your monitor, I
also recommend writing them down and sticking them on the front.

[1] : Or even an excellent PDF copy of Ann's computer's hardware
manual, through which I was able to find the correct serial
number to give to the guy who sold us some RAM yesterday.
The sticker on the case's inside said 128M sticks are fine; the
manual went so far as to explain that they must be thus and such
sticks. Copying the serial number from the almost-working
RAM[2] and searching for 20 minutes has been *so* useful.
[2] : It detected only half of the available memory, which still
results in a tripling of memory, hooray!
