I have found (as a unix Sysadmin) that Solaris experience on a resume
still counts more heavily than Linux experience despite the ever-growing
popularity of Linux. I believe this is because Solaris admin skills are
comparatively rare compared to Linux admin skills, and Sun hardware is
still very popular.
The 2 OSes are very similar to admin of course - just worth knowing the
differences to avoid unfortunate mistakes (hint: avoid the use of killall
under Solaris, use pkill instead). Similarly, don't change a Sun box to
runlevel 5 unless you want to go to the machine to power it back on.
Cheers,
-Rob
