I saw another </head> later down.  I figure that was what the W3C engine
was complaining about.  There's a feature request on bugzilla for
"validation stars" on the status bar.  It would be a cool feature (at a
glance see the validity of the page) but apparently there isn't enough
faith in the Mozilla parsing engine to trust it. :(
