The earlier suggestion to hold it somewhere other than UQ makes sense.
There are a number of Unix/Linux companies in Brisbane. Off the top of
my head, Redhat and Trolltech both have Brisbane offices. I'm sure they
could help with a location/funding if you'll let them put up propaganda.
You might also find that you can get some interesting talks from these
companies. I'd be interested (if I wasn't stuck in NSW) in a talk from
Trolltech on how GPLing Qt has affected their business. [1] Having more
companies giving talks would also give a more professional mood to the
talks, and be more likely to attract businesspeople, which would be more
likely to get you talks ... I see a snowball. I still say one of the
other existing groups would be a better host, since I always saw HUMBUG
as more of a hobbyist group (after all, it is HOME UNIX users).

Just my 2c.

Sarah

[1] My brother in law works for Trolltech, which is why I know about
Trolltech. I'm sure there are heaps of other workplaces with valuable
contributions to make. Said bro-in-law has done a talk at HUMBUG before
when he worked for Compaq.
