[H-GEN] Problem with Mozilla and Mozilla Firebird

I've just spent about 10 hours building both mozilla-1.3b and
mozilla-firebird-0.6.1 on a FreeBSD-4.3 box.  Both built OK and
start up nicely -- beautiful display of fonts and graphics, and
all operations with the mouse work peachy.

However, if I touch any key at all, either for navigation or to
type in a URL, etc., then both versions freeze completely.  This
makes them both quite useless.

Does anybody have the slightest clue about this?
