You'll find that most CD burning software in Linux only likes SCSI devices. 
So a kernel module was created to make selected IDE devices look like devices 
on a virtual SCSI bus. You'll even see this in windows but probably won't 
notice it as much. I think it has something to do with CD burners needing 
SCSI commands to operate, even when they are connected to an IDE bus.
