I was curious about that too. I suspect its a marketing thing - you know like
Netscape went from 4.7 to 6 in response to MS not being able to get IE right
and having to bring out so many new versions that they had v6 when Netscape
was still at 4.78. :-(

I suspect that you'll see Red Hat Linux release 10 before you see Red Hat
Linux version 9.1, or 9.<anything> for that matter. Or am I being a bit
presumptuous suggesting they'll go to "releases" instead of versions? :-)

After looking at 8.0, I'm still running 7.3 on the desktop and on the servers.
I haven't had a chance yet to have a good look at 9 in any detail, but I
suspect my desktop will either be going to RHL9 or Debian3.0r1 sometime in
the next 6 months. The servers will stay RHL7.3 until the hardware lease
expires in 32 months. (Damn the RHN decision to end-of-life 7.3 only 15
months after we bought it.)
