Sorry, I have no idea about these apart from some general pointers on

Well, you used tar to get the data onto the tape; you should be able
to use it to get it off again.
As a last resort you could use dd (see my previous message) to read
files from the tape one by one and pipe those into whatever program
is needed to extract the data.
