The machine is pretty much a 'standard server' install of RH7.1 with kernel 
version 2.4.2.  The kernel is the one shipped by RedHat for Pentium 
processors.  I haven't bothered trying to build or customise a new one - I 
know I'll get a few flames for this, I haven't seen any need to yet.  Should 
it turn out that a new kernel with a different option somewhere will fix this 
problem, then I can see a need.  :-)

This is what I get when I telnet to the machine.
