I am looking to do the same, I want a static IP though so I have been
looking at business plans.

I did a telstra dsl install for a business, it was an Alcatel Speedtouch
USB modem. I fought with the thing for about a day and a half to get the
kernel module working properly then i couldn't find either working
source for pppoa or the code for the ATM-to-Ethernet bridge that was
written a couple of years back. I ended up using IPCop for them as it
had support for it out of the box and meant that I didn't have to screw
around with it any longer. I would say stay away from USB in genreal,
my experiences (limited as they are) with it have all been bad.
