Could you show use the contents of /etc/resolv.conf and also the
"hosts" lines in /etc/nsswitch.conf.
Also do an iptables -L and look for anyting relating to port 53 or dns.
Post this as well.

Actually hosts.allow & hosts.deny don't have anything to do with name
resolution. They control the access control lists for TCP wrappers (and
also optionally sshd).
Avoid routed unless your network is complex (unlikely at home :)

Not sure what you mean here. The dns servers you use are not related to
any given network interface.

Did you manually set your dns server anywhere or where they given to you
dynamically (eg, by pppd)?
