This sounds a lot like Trinux. A bootable CD with a lot of NIC drivers,
requiring no hard drive, and chock full of networking programs. I mirror
this on my file server, which is only available at HUMBUG meetings on
http://192.168.146.196/. I use it myself to solve networking problems,
though I haven't tried the new version yet.

Someone usually has a CD burner, so have a look at it during the next
meeting, and I'll be happy to help.
