    You appear to be referring to the "default" domain? That's stored in
/etc/resolv.conf

thusly -:

search default_domain_name.2ld.au
nameserver 192.168.17.254

means that

host www.default_domain_name.2ld.au

and

host www

both return the same reply.

Make sure the nameserver line has your nameserver IP as well of course,
since that's how it 'resolves' :)
