If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
The feature additions to DHCP v3 are:
- DHCP Failover Protocol support
- OMAPI, an API for accessing and modifying the
- DHCP server and client state.
- Conditional behaviour
- Storing arbitrary information on leases
- Address pools with access control
- Client classing
- Address allocation restriction by class
- Relay agent information option support
- Dynamic DNS updates
- Many bug fixes, performance enhancements, and minor new DHCP protocol
features.
If you need any of the above features, install DHCP v3 from ISC.
Otherwise why not stick with the vendor provided DHCP package?
The vendor provided package is probably more mature than the latest
and greatest release, and therefore a bit more stable and (in the
Linux world when it's maintained) secure.
Take the Debian Exim maintainers view on upgrading Exim to version 4. v3
is actively maintained for secure and bug fixes, and it works, so don't
fix it. If you want the new ACL support (which really adds upto a
rewritten config file), you can install Exim 4 manually.
