And if all that fails, give it a good hard whack with a 4 lb sledge hammer.
It's amazing what a little percussive maintenance can do.  If that still
doesn't help you can then utilise said hammer to relieve the frustration and
then you will not need to worry about the possibly faulty hardware any more.
