cuz i snarfed a couple of those boxed sets and I'm too lazy to download an
iso. I'm also afraid of running into the same problem that i had when
installing mandrake 8 (and winXP) - if u have a resolution of 640x480, u
are in for a lot of hassle. my poor old monitor won't support anything
greater than 640x480. it makes this awful high pitched whining noise and
the screen becomes impossible to read. most people don't realise until
they're in this situation that minimum resolution of 800x600 is rather a
pain in the bottom. my 'decent' monitor died, and while i save for a new
one i'm stuck with this old beast, or stuck with no computer. Trying to use
X in Mandrake 8 was a bit of a joke. Most of the programs defaulted to
800x600, and covered the 'taskbar'. the last thing i want to do is spend a
whole heap of time learning how to make the screen display in 640x480 and
yet have a size of 800x600 or 1024x768. scrollbars in programs are good.
they're good in pages with frames too. if only people didn't program to a
'standard'. i find that the standard is rarely so standard and just serves
to turn away people who come up short.

Sandra, stepping off the soapbox.
