[H-GEN] oddities in console

I have a problem that is becoming a major annoyance. My vga console
keeps crashing. This has only started happening with kernels in the
later areas of 2.4 (2.4.16 and up I think). Now ths might not annoy some
of you but I am forced to work from console as my monitor at work goes
fuzzy when running X (besides i find myself more productive from
console).

I was wondering if anyone else had noticed it or had heard of a possible
fix for it?
