The reiserfs team want to get it into 2.4 but they're not sure they'll be
able to. Otherwise it'll just remain an unofficial patch. It'll be in 2.5
shortly.

I patched my kernel for the new XFS 1.1 the other day I could have sworn
it was in there.

The argument goes that the loss of metadata is far more catastrophic on
average than the loss of non-meta data. That is why Linux's disk sync
used to sync data every 30 seconds but metadata every 5 seconds. It's
more complex than that now (last time I looked :)
