In all situations bar those where the overhead is prohibitive (eg,
embedded or old systems with limited 'disk'), journalling would be a Bad
Thing. In pretty much any of today's entry-level system with excessive
amounts of disk space and cpu power, the overhead induced by journalling
is negligible for the peace of mind given.
An additional (handy) thing that you can do with the better journalled
filesystems is to have the ability of 'snapshots', or 'this is what the
filesystem looked like at previous point in time and this is the contents
of the files at that point in time'. _Not_ an alternative to backups, but
heartily recommended for magically making files reappear after users do
(bad?) things.
