How far have you got.  Can you get as far as dialing in from a remote box
& getting a login/password prompt?

It is worth noting, that I've had more problems with mgetty & locking (eg,
say with pppd) than with any other getty.  I often use getty_ps (often
just called getty), which i have used many times to setup dialin/pppd
access.
