K. When DoD is waiting to make a connection because the last "Idle
Timeout" expired, that button will display "Waiting" to indicate that
SmoothWall is waiting for traffic to cause the dialup to happen. It
will then say "Connected" (or similar) when connected. The only time
that "Idle" should appear on a DoD connection is if the "Maximum
Retries" has been exceeded.
If the modem config works normally without DoD, then bOrks when you
change to DoD (with the rest of the details unchanged), I'd suggest
checking the MD5 checksum of the downloaded ISO image and re-downloading
the SmoothWall GPL 0.9.9SE ISO if it is not correct. Also, try a HTTP
install instead of a CD-install (have a look at
http://quarkau.go.dyndns.org for some info on this, and some other
stuff) in case the CD itself has karked it.
