[H-GEN] gl texturing problem

Hi all.
I have recently switched my videocard back to a Matrox MGAG200 video card.
I have had this working fine in the past, and have reccently switched back from
an Nvidia card (slightly defective).
Upon firing up quake2 or 3, the textures are not sent to the video card.
I get the following error messages:
Failed to upload texture, sz 131072
Memory heap (nil):
heap == 0
End of memory blocks
Failed to upload texture, sz 131072
Memory heap (nil):
heap == 0
End of memory blocks
glxgears works fine however.
The permissions on /dev/agpgart are world read/writable, and the agpgart module is
loaded with agp_try_unsupported=1 (the mobo is a via chipset based board)
kernel 2.4.20-k7 debian/unstable
where else can I look to solve this problem?
