I'd agree that pump is nicer to configure... BUT I could never get it to
work on Optus cable.  I had all sorts of dramas initially and couldn't
manage to get an IP address from the Optus DHCP server.  Eventually a
distant memory surfaced of someone else mentioning this (Kris Amy iirc) and
I switched to dhcpcd and it has worked fine ever since.
